More reasons to put secure data in the public cloud

The worldwide market for Cloud intrusion protection applications is projected to rise by $1.8 billion and have a compounded growth of 24.8 percent. This should surprise nobody, considering the amount of core business assets that are being pushed to the cloud now, in addition to the amount which security suppliers are spending cloud.

This is really a matter of considering risk. What’s the danger in leaving the information in which it is, versus going into a public cloud? Most importantly, what risk are you taking on by not moving the data?

The answer to that question has changed a great deal during the past few years, and it is largely because of the fact that R&D spending for security technology suppliers has shifted wholeheartedly into the cloud. In other words, if you’re trying to find a quickly evolving technology that is current with the most current security features, the public cloud may be your only choice. This is not even considering the cost and agility advantages, which need to be baked into your hosting choices as well.

Consequently, if you can not force the market to change one way or other you’re left with few choices. It is the public cloud followed by advanced security solutions that give the security that you’ll need. This accounts for its projected 24.8 percent compounded growth because stuff, not such as consulting, and other echo-system products that aid in cloud-based security but are usually not counted.

What’s core here is rank-and-file enterprises becoming comfortable with the concept of transferring data and leaving it at the cloud–moreover, all the work that has to be performed to ensure that the data is and remains protected.

To be honest, I see the paranoia. Additionally, I expect some major cloud-based breaches in the near future. However, these breaches won’t be due to a deficiency of solid security technology; they will be brought on by a deficiency of security capacity. This is where the vulnerabilities are really emerging, and no quantity of technology can solve that matter. “You can not fix stupid.”

The change is coming. Start preparing your people now, if you would like to really create cloud security function.
